The staff members of Lowcountry Pastroral Counseling Center are highly trained therapists who are equipped to help with many concerns. Each therapist holds a masters or doctorate degree in counseling and are licensed by the state. In addition, each therapist helps clients to integrate their spiritual life into the therapeutic process.

LYNN GRAVES, Senior Therapist

A caring relationship with clients, informed by solid theory and technique, characterize Lynn's approach to counseling. Her consistent empathy and concern for growth allow her to see a wide variety of clients. She brings a wealth of life experience to her therapy.

Early in her clinical work, Lynn worked with children and adolescents, some with abuse backgrounds. Later she developed an extensive practice working with adults, individually and in marriage and family contexts. She has helped many individuals through difficult life transitions.

Lynn has experience in agency, private practice, and pastoral counseling settings. These work experiences and training, along with her personal journey, allow Lynn to help her clients move towards growth and change in a safe therapeutic environment. She is the Senior Counselor at LPCC. Her office is located at our James Island Center.

RUTH DOMBROWSKI
Director of Community Outreach

Empathy, spirituality, experience and intelligence combine to make Ruth Dombrowski an excellent choice as a counselor and therapist. Ruth is a healer, educator and an advocate for those who face the challenges of mood and substance use disorders. As a Certified Addictions Counselor, Ruth has also worked extensively with persons who are dealing with the challenge of a dual diagnosis.

Ruth utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy to help clients discover dysfunctional patterns and learn how to navigate the road toward self-acceptance, self awareness, and recovery. She believes that personal and spiritual growth is a lifelong journey that enables us to appreciate the mountaintop experiences, and to cope with the valleys. She is a native Charlestonian and enjoys visits with her children, playing with her pets, singing, and going downtown with her husband of 27 (and counting) years. Her offices are located at our Downtown and North Charleston Centers.

LISA V. BELTON, Therapist & Substance Abuse Counselor

A strong belief in hope and change contribute to Lisa's supportive therapy with clients. Lisa's ability to build rapport with clients engages them in the counseling process. A variety of treatment settings have allowed Lisa to specialize in work with individuals, couples, young people and families.

As a Certified Addictions Counselor, Lisa has worked extensively with clients struggling with their own substance abuse or that of a loved one. In addition, she has significant experience in working with those struggling with depression, bi-polar disorders, anxiety, and phobias. She particularly enjoys helping families cope with life challenges. Lisa’s personal faith underpins her clinical work, and reminds her that with God all things are possible.

As a Certified Addictions Counselor, Lisa has worked extensively with clients struggling with their own substance abuse or that of a loved one. Her office is located at our James Island Center.

CYNTHIA WASHINGTON-WILLIAMS, Therapist & Substance Abuse Counselor

Cynthia comes to Lowcountry Pastoral Counseling with significant experience in all forms of counseling and therapy. Cynthia is working primarily out of the Saint Andrews Boulevard office in West Ashley. She is a former program administrator (August 2000-July 2006) at the Detention Center's substance abuse/thinking errors program of the Charleston Center of Charleston County. Cynthia has also worked with the South Carolina Department of Social Services and as a counselor at the Rock Hill Girl's Home.

Cynthia is a highly sought after therapist and substance abuse counselor. She is also a dynamic group counselors and is trained in the integration of faith and clinical health. Cynthia is also an excellent trainer and public speaker and is adept in treating all forms of psychological and emotional disorders. She was recently cited by the US Department of Health and Human Services for her service in New Orleans to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Her office is located at our West Ashley Center.

BERNIE TOURTUAL, Therapist and Addictions Counselor

Bernie is a clinical social worker who has practiced in community mental health settings for over 10 years. She has a background in education and pastoral care. Her practice is eclectic but with an emphasis on setting goals, education, cognitive behavioral and insight oriented therapy with a relationship to how faith life impacts the issues in one’s life.

Her competencies are in the area of anxiety, depression, bi-polar, transition issues and spiritual concerns though she has experience in many areas of mental health. She enjoys working with children, adolescents, women, men, families and couples.

Cooking, gardening, reading, watching movies and walking in nature revive her spirit. Her life is grounded in her love of God from whom she gets her strength and inner resolve. Her practice has a flexible schedule and she is willing to work with you to come to an agreeable meeting time. Her office is located at our Summerville Center.

JONAS COATSWORTH, Therapist and Addictions Counselor

One of the most important components in Jonas’s work is the quality of the therapeutic relationship. The foundation of this relationship is grounded in trust, genuineness, empathy, and understanding. Through his years of experience in inpatient and outpatient settings working with adolescents and adults dealing with various issues, he believes these aforementioned variables to be the catalyst for change within the therapeutic relationship. He is also active in session utilizing cognitive-behavioral interventions to identify, challenge, and modify self-defeating thought patterns and how they are connected to our feelings and behavior. Recognizing our place “in this world” and how it is connected to others is also a central theme in his therapy sessions.

His journey has led to experience working with various mental health issues (depression, anxiety, bipolar, and psychosis) in an inpatient, outpatient, and crisis stabilization modality. Jonas has extensive experience working with adolescents and adult populations dealing with issues related to substance use. Anger management, stress management, problem solving skills, and decision making processes have also been areas of interest for him and a part of his work background. ALLYSON CARRINGTON, Therapist

Creating a safe place for people to explore issues is a key factor in therapy. Allyson Carrington's education, experience, and empathy provide her clients with that safe space to work through transitions and heal.

She has worked in the helping profession for over 20 years. Early in her career, Allyson worked in the public school system and then worked in outpatient environments with families and individuals recovering from alcohol and drug related problems. Allyson then worked in an inpatient facility as an evaluator and clinician for incarcerated youths. Family preservation is also an important part of her history. Allyson works with adolescents, individuals, couples, and families with diverse needs.

Her education and experience has prepared her to provide help for many situations. Using a client centered approach; Allyson Carrington utilizes both cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational enhancement therapy. In addition to the specialties listed below, other focus areas are self esteem issues, adult children of alcoholics, family of origin issues, and self discovery/creativity. Her office is located at our Mount Pleasant Center.

MAUREEN PORTER, PhD

Dr. Porter brings thirty years experience to her work with individuals, couples and families. Over the past fifteen years, she has obtained specialized training in working with couples at the Washington School of Psychiatry in Washington, DC and the Gottman Institute at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Porter enjoys working with all kinds of couples and families at every stage of development, including premarital assessment and counseling, blended families, couples managing issues of aging and illness and experiencing problems in their sexual relationship. Dr. Porter offers group sessions and workshops for couples expecting their first child.

Reeves Howard, Therapist
MA, LPC


Personal choice is a key element of Reeves' approach to helping clients. She views her role as a guide to help clients to discover their own answers and build skills. She started her career in a preschool, where her interest in family systems began. Since this time, she has worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families with the belief that anyone is capable of accomplishing their goals and reducing personal discomfort. She uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Structural Family Therapy among other modalities to help clients accomplish their goals.

Reeves has spent a great deal of time working with traumatized youth, oppositional teenagers, children with ADHD, and struggling parents. She has gained experience in crisis, assessment, and treatment of mental illnesses, for example depression and anxiety, through her work in the public mental health setting. She is an accredited Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) provider.
